In partnership with the TRHT Campus Center at Rutgers-Newark and ReThink Theatrical

Summer 2019 weekly book club for students entering 9-12 grade

Participating teens will:

  • Receive free books and materials to keep on completion of program
  • Engage in read-aloud and discussion around topics of race and racial healing
  • Create performance art based on themes from the reading list, guided by ReThink Theatrical
  • Participate in racial healing circles with facilitators from the Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation Center at Rutgers-Newark
  • Receive a certificate of participation & volunteer credit!

  • The Shadow Hero, Gene Luen Yang & Sonny Liew
  • Dreaming In Indian, Lisa Charleyboy & Mary Beth Leatherdale, eds.
  • Always Running, La Vida Loca: Gang Days in L.A., Luis J. Rodriguez

Dates

  • Saturday June 15 @ 12pm—Information Session
  • Saturday June 22 @ 10am—Kick-off & First Racial Healing Circle
  • Tuesdays @ 2pm—Book Club meetings (July 2-September 17)
  • Friday, September 20 @ 7pm—Final Racial Healing Circle & Closing Ceremony
